The main objective of a Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) study is to predict the availability of the production and identify the major causes of unavailability and propose improvements to the equipment/systems and configurations where appropriate.

The RAM study consists of the following:

  • conduct of a Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) of the availability critical production equipment;
  • develop a Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) for the availability critical production equipment; and
  • Analysis of the contributors to unavalabiity.

Arriscar use the AvSim Module of the Availability Workbench (AWB) software package to develop the RBD. The AWB simulation engine employs Monte Carlo simulation methods to predict system and sub-system parameters such as unavailability and total down time etc. Other packages, such as Maros, are also used based on client requirements
